





This course is ideal for guides, youth group leaders, teachers, camp counsellors, or anyone involved in environmental education.
A required introduction to the course will be held prior to the weekend class. This introduction is included in the required 16 hours of instruction. Teaching assignments will be given at that time. Follow up instruction experience and completion of teaching assignments will occur during the backpack weekend, which includes 1 night of camping in the backcountry after an easy hike to the campsite.

The field session involves an overnight backpacking trip. Participants must be able to carry an overnight backpack and hike at least 5km with packs on.
Tuesday, September 1 (pre-meeting on ZOOM)
7:00 PM – Participate in pre-meeting for Leave No Trace background, class assignments and administrative requirements.
8:00 PM – Conclude course introduction.
Saturday, September 17
10:00 AM – Check-in (location to be announced).
10:30 AM – Depart (Location to be determined)
11:00 -12:00 AM – Arrive at trailhead, assignment discussion and hike to camp, stopping along the way for lunch.
Sunday, September 18
Morning – After breakfast, students demonstrate more assignments and participate in LNT principles discussion.
2:00 PM – Break camp and return to Hope.

Meet at Hope Recreation Centre
(1005 – 6th Avenue in Hope)
Participants must arrange for their own transportation to Hope and travel to the trail head location with their own vehicle (car pooling is optional for those that feel comfortable to do so).
Also, bring teaching materials for the assignment chosen at the pre-meeting.

With consideration of COVID-19 global pandemic, registration will be refunded (minus $25 admin fee) for cancellations with proof of a positive COVID 19 test. A program may be cancelled at the discretion of HMCOL. If a program is cancelled by HMCOL, participants will receive a full refund of program fees.
Please be aware that our programs run regardless of weather conditions, unless HMCOL determines that it will affect the safety of participants.
Hope Mountain Centre carries liability insurance and maintains excellent safety records. Due to the nature of outdoor programs, these trips do involve some personal risk. Hope Mountain Centre assumes no responsibility for personal injury or damage to personal property and we will require each participant to sign a liability release and assumption of risk form before participating in this program.
Please be aware that activities typical of this program involve many risks, dangers and hazards including, but not limited to: accidents which occur during transportation or travel to and from events; slips and falls; loss of balance; impact, cold water immersion; repetitive strain injuries; dislocated shoulders; hypothermia, frostbite, sunburn; changing and inclement weather conditions including storms, blizzards, whiteouts and high wind; steepness of terrain, tree wells, crevasses; avalanches, cornices, landslides and falling ice, snow and objects; encounters with domestic or wild animals; negligence on the part of releasees and other participants.
