Hope Mountain Centre for Outdoor Learning is recruiting a part time Program Assistant to assist in the delivery various educational programs in Hope and the surrounding areas. Your energy and passion for sharing information with all ages – toddlers to grandparents – will help HMCOL maintain its high standard of programming to school children and the general public. The intention of this position is to assist the Program Director with her duties, with the goal of training you to be able to deliver some programs on your own eventually.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the Program Director with set up, delivery and cleanup of HMCOL curriculum-based school programs (preschool through grade 6) inside the classroom and out in the field.
- Keep program statistics up to date (data entry). Clean, organize and keep program props, equipment, and storage unit in good working order.
- Assist with marketed and conservation programs, and community events.
- Attend monthly staff and board meetings.
- Assist with program administration including correspondence, report writing, etc.
REQUIREMENTS
- Strong public speaking skills.
- Biology, ecology, education, conservation and/or resource management studies diploma, degree or related and equivalent work experience. Other relevant areas of study/experience may be considered.
- Experience working with children, adults and family groups of all ages and abilities.
- Comfortable working outdoors in every season and weather condition. Driver’s license and regular access to a vehicle with winter tires.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Able to work both independently and as a team player.
- Current First Aid certificate or willingness to get certified asap

TERMS
- This is a part-time regular position involving some evening and weekend work as well as weekday work.
- Hours will range from 5-15 hours per week, with the possibility to increase overtime if desired. The position is a remote job requiring you to work from home, as well as at various locations throughout the Hope area for program delivery including schools, local parks, and remote backcountry.
- Pay rate is $20/hour, inclusive of vacation pay.
- HMC will provide CPP, EI and WCB coverage. Mileage from Hope centre to work location is reimbursed according to CRA guidelines (currently $0.59/km).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
● Plan, direct, deliver and report on educational outdoor recreation and conservation programs, events and activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill HMCOL objectives.
● Carry out program activities within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
● Clean, organize and keep program props, equipment, and storage unit in good working order.
● Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information, helps organize and schedule program registrations.
● Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with a variety of partners.
● Assist in the development and monitoring of program budgets to meet fiscal objectives.
● Coordinate use of facilities for program activities and events.
● Maintain program statistics. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in programs, and provide monthly reports to the ED and Board of Directors, as well as information for funding reports.
● Assist the Program Assistant with HMCOL’s curriculum-based school programs (preschool through grade 6) inside the classroom throughout SD78 and out in the field.
● Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and direct program staff and volunteers as needed. Review and evaluate staff performance. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
● Assist with fundraising activities.
● Attend all monthly and annual meetings.
● Manage program administration including correspondence, report writing, etc.
● Perform all other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS

● Comfortable working outdoors leading outdoor recreation programs across a variety of mountain activities in any season and weather condition.
● Driver’s license, regular access to a vehicle with winter tires, and experience/comfort driving on mountain and forest roads in all conditions.
● Self-motivated, driven, and able to work both independently and as a team player.

TERMS
The position is a remote job requiring you to work from home, as well as at various locations throughout the Hope area for program delivery including schools, local parks, and remote backcountry.
Hours are negotiable but ideally this is a three-quarter time regular position involving some evening and weekend work as well as weekday work, with salary equivalent to 30 hours per week at $30/hour, inclusive of vacation pay. HMCOL will provide CPP, EI and WCB coverage. Mileage from Hope centre to work location is reimbursed according to CRA guidelines (currently $0.61/km). Partial phone and business vehicle use insurance allowance will be provided.
